The Ikarus ŠM was a 1920s Yugoslavian biplane flying boat built by Ikarus Tvornica Aero i Hydroplana and used for training by the Royal Yugoslav Navy.

Development

The ŠM (for Školski Mercedes en:School Mercedes) was the first design of Josif Mikl for the Ikarus company, it was a side-by-side two-seat biplane flying boat powered by a 100 hp (75 kW) Mercedes engine.

Operational history

The aircraft were used by the Royal Yugoslav Navy as a basic trainer up to the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1941 a small number of aircraft were captured by Italian forces but they were not used.
